On the Road

It’s spring time, and this is the time of year that many bikers get their bikes ready for summer. Even the most pristine motorcycles need a little love. They need tune-ups and oil…. and a little shine always looks nice. I have a good friend that lives just north of San Francisco. Like clockwork, every year, he has a mechanic check out all of his vehicles… automobiles and motorcycles. I always refer to him as Mr. San Francisco auto repair in the spring time!
But, when you consider routine maintenance, most people neglect it so, even though I poke fun, I also applaud the persistence. He makes sure that his vehicles are well maintained, his cars last a long time and he rarely has any problems on the road. One of the most common repairs that needs to be checked every 75K miles is the timing belt. generally cracks and wears down over time. It’s also one of those repairs, that when left alone, causes significant problems. Fortunately, breaking a timing belt is probably not going to damage any other parts to your vehicle…. however, when it breaks, you’re stopping… getting a tow… and waiting for it to be fixed. That’s why it’s wise to have them checked from time to time. A good mechanic will let you know when it’s getting old and needs to be replaced.
That, of course, reminds me that it’s time for me to have my little Honda Accord checked out! Time to get some sleep so I can take care of it in the morning. With your vehicles, please stay safe and be prepared!
