Not Quite Motorcycles

I had to make a comment because of what I’ve been hearing at work and seeing in the newspaper. It’s amazing that raising chickens is becoming as popular. It’s funny how things cycle. If you think about fashion for clothes, it seems to cycle every 20-30 years whereas auto body styles seem to cycle every 40-50 years. That’s not to say the all styles come back but there’s definitely a cycle where people get bored of things and then see them again many years later and all of a sudden it’s classic, new and exciting again. It’s amusing when you think about it.
However, there are some things that you just don’t see coming. For ages, people lived off of the land, raising their own food, collecting eggs, milking cows, canning vegetables and many domestic chores that have been dormant for city and suburban America for many years. Well, guess what? There seems to be a cycle. The transition to manufacturing these products was about convenience. People were tired of doing everything from growing to canning, collecting and killing their own food.
But now, we’re cycling back to gardening and raising chickens simply to increase the quality of our food. Organic vegetables, local butcher shops, nearby dairy farms and a resurgence in chicken coops is storming the market! Websites are popping up about organic gardening.
E-books on chicken coop plansare popping up all over the internet. That’s how it starts. There’s a desire for something. People start asking for it and business people start producing. For many years, chicken coops were about basic need and was thrown together with some wood and chicken wire. Now they’re practically a statement and made for style. They’ve even start developing Green Roof Chicken Coops! You have to check out that chicken coop website!
So, here I am worried about technology, chrome, rubber, miles per gallon and the open road… while the world is coming full circle back to the slower and more simple life. I don’t think we’re going back to horse and buggy but I do think people are looking for more of an outlet back to nature. I think, in a strange way, it’s part of the appeal to motorcycles. After all, it is a steel horse, you get more of a feel for the road, the sounds, the sights and the smells. Sometimes, that’s more pleasant than others but it’s more of a sense of accomplishment. I know that computers make things more efficient and everything is on hyper-speed in comparison to what it was 100 years ago or even 25 years ago. But for the worker that’s doing data entry or updating networks, it’s not always that rewarding. There are many more jobs where it’s very difficult to see the fruits of your labor. Whereas, building a rail road, car, building, road, or harvesting a garden, you feel like you did something and I believe people need that.
Anyway, thanks for reading… from motorcycles to chicken coops, stay tuned, I’ll keep you posted!
